The March Rogue of the Month is Shelly!


Give us a little background on who you are and what you do for a living

I’ve lived in the Rogue Valley pretty much my whole life. I’m married and have a 15 month old baby girl and a 6 yr old step daughter. I’ve been an esthetician for 9 years and now work from home so I can stay at home with my daughter.

How long have you been CrossFitting?

A friend had heard about this new CrossFit gym (RVCF) just opening so my husband and I said we would check it out with him. That first workout was the hardest thing I had ever done and I wanted to die, so of course I was immediately hooked. For me it’s exactly what I needed, something new everyday, friendly competition, wanting to push myself harder than I ever had before and seeing amazing results. At first I was going to do it for 1 month so I could get in shape for our trip to Hawaii. Coming up on 9 months later I’m an addict and CrossFitter for life.

What training did you do before CrossFit?

I’ve always gone to the gym and had the need to stay active. I’ve done a figure competition, several races, anything to give me a new goal to work towards.

How has CrossFit impacted your life?

It’s such a huge part of my life, it’s my routine and something I love doing 6 days a week. Now that my husband has also gotten serious about it, it’s something we can enjoy together and have in common. I feel good about myself and I know I am getting stronger and fitter. And of course I’ve made great friends over the past several months and that makes going even more fun.

What has been your most memorable experience at the gym?

Probably PRing heavy lifts, thinking there is no way I could lift it but eventually doing it. It’s such a sense of accomplishment. Hopefully in the near future I can say a memorable event is doing my first muscle up, I’m fighting with that right now. Also, when I first started coming to CrossFit my daughter was 7 months old and everyday just sat on a blanket and watched. Now she’s crawling/walking all over the place and half the time Carla, Jake or Ali has to hold her so I can keep working out (which I appreciate so much, I don’t know what I would do without you guys). So to me it’s special/memorable seeing her grow up with our CrossFit family.

What’s your favorite WOD or exercise?

I like chippers or something like Filthy 50 is a good one.

Do you have any advice for new CrossFit members?

You will never work out harder in your life but the satisfaction of getting faster, stronger and fitter is worth everything CrossFit puts you through.
